Andrea Dekker mentioned reading an article titled, “32 Habits of People With Homes That are Almost Always Clean”. I read that same article, and like Andrea, found it to be a fluff piece with little useful content. I decided that it wasn’t worth sharing, but Andrea wrote her own post on the topic, and it is definitely worth sharing.
The two habits she describes are:
- Don’t Procrastinate
- Get Back to Normal Every Day
I have put these habits into practice by cleaning up after myself and doing a nightly cleanup. If you are a procrastinator or have some ADD tendencies, it can be hard to follow through with cleanup after completing activities. I struggle with that myself. By the time I’m done with an activity, it’s held my focus for as long as I can bear, and I have no attention span left to focus on the cleanup. It takes a huge effort to make sure I get the cleanup done, but I feel better overall when I complete the cleanup.
If you cleanup after each activity, the nightly cleanup is easy. Even if you faltered in your post-activity cleanups, a nightly cleanup shouldn’t take too long, and it wipes the slate clean so you can start fresh the following day.
